Volunteer at MWSUG 2018
Ask not what MWSUG can do for you – ask what you can do for MWSUG! MWSUG is an all-volunteer organization. As such, we rely completely on volunteers like you to make the conference a success. Volunteering is a great way to network and become more active in the community of SAS users. This year, we are in need of volunteers to help out at the registration desk and to serve as session coordinators.
Registration desk volunteers help the registrar and conference attendees before and during the conference. This may include setting up the registration booth, handing out conference materials, and answering questions attendees may have. Registration coordinators usually work a shift of 2-3 hours.
Session coordinators assist the sections chairs during the presentations. Each section at the conference consists of one to four half-day sessions, and each section chair is typically assisted by two session coordinators. Session coordinators help with timing the speaker, distributing handouts, taking care of lights, keeping the door closed during presentations, tidying the room at session end, possibly helping the speaker get set up, etc.
All volunteers are also asked to attend a brief organizational meeting early Sunday evening (details to follow).
FAQs
I want to volunteer! What do I do?
When you register for the conference, you will have the opportunity to let us know that you would like to volunteer. Registration begins June 4, 2018. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators, Richann Watson and Shavonne Standifer, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
When will I know at what time(s) I am scheduled to volunteer?
Assignments will be made by the volunteer coordinators and you will be notified via email approximately one week prior to the conference.
What if I am not assigned to my preferred time slot?
Although our volunteer coordinators make every effort to place volunteers in their desired assignments, it is not always feasible, so please keep in mind that your time slot could possibly conflict with your desire to see a presentation. We ask that you fulfill your assigned time slot or work with the volunteer coordinators to make other arrangements. The success of the conference is dependent on people like you who are willing to make a commitment to help with different duties at the conference.
How will I be contacted about volunteering?
The volunteer coordinator will contact you via email using the address you provided during registration.
Do volunteers receive a registration discount?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer a registration discount for our many volunteers. However, volunteers will be prominently acknowledged for their service.
